My uncle Mark used to pick me up from school in a blacked-out 1997 Honda Accord outfitted with two 15" subs in the trunk and one of those blue-LED Alpine stereos. I remember sitting in the middle backseat, watching my reflection in the rear-view mirror vibrating into oblivion, listening to these songs while Mark and my sister would sing along. I remember the smell of stale cigarettes and McDonald's chicken nuggets and the shitty My Shaldan air freshener. I remember how I'd slow lightly hum a note to myself and feel the subwoofer kicking the air in my lungs. I remember the loose black screw stuck inside the center light fixture. I remember the hella annoying sound it would make every time we turned left or right. I'm appreciating all of these things now.
